Free FD calculator — maturity value of a fixed deposit

Use this calculator to estimate what a fixed deposit (FD) could be worth when it matures. Enter the amount you deposit, the interest rate your bank offers, how long you will keep the deposit and how often the interest is compounded. You see the maturity amount, the interest earned and a year-by-year table. It covers the common cumulative FD, where the interest is added back to the deposit and paid out at the end.

How to use the FD calculator

  1. Enter the deposit amount in rupees.
  2. Enter the annual interest rate your bank quotes.
  3. Enter the tenure in years and months.
  4. Pick the compounding. Many Indian banks compound FD interest quarterly, but check the terms of your own deposit.
  5. Click Calculate.

The formula

Maturity amount A = P × (1 + r ÷ n)n × t, where P is the deposit, r is the annual rate as a decimal, n is the number of times interest is compounded each year and t is the tenure in years. The interest earned is A − P. Choosing "At maturity" gives simple interest: A = P × (1 + r × t).

Worked example

A deposit of ₹1,00,000 at 7% a year for 5 years, compounded quarterly, grows to about ₹1,41,478, so the interest is about ₹41,478. With yearly compounding the same deposit gives about ₹1,40,255. With monthly compounding it gives about ₹1,41,763. The more often interest is compounded, the higher the maturity amount, but the difference is small over short tenures.

What this calculator does not include

  • Tax. Interest on an FD is taxable, and banks may deduct TDS. This tool shows the interest before any tax.
  • Premature withdrawal. Breaking an FD early usually earns a lower rate and may carry a penalty.
  • Bank rules. Banks differ in how they count days and round the interest, so your receipt may differ by a small amount.
  • Interest payout options. It does not model monthly or quarterly payout FDs, where the interest is paid out instead of added to the deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the FD maturity amount calculated?

The calculator uses A = P × (1 + r ÷ n)^(n × t), where P is the deposit, r the annual rate, n the compounding periods a year and t the tenure in years.

How often do banks compound FD interest?

Many Indian banks compound cumulative FD interest quarterly, but it varies. Check the terms of your own deposit and pick the same option here.

Does the result include tax or TDS?

No. The interest shown is before tax. FD interest is taxable, and the bank may deduct TDS, so your take-home amount can be lower.

What does "At maturity" compounding mean here?

It gives simple interest, with no compounding during the tenure: A = P × (1 + r × t).

Can I calculate an FD that pays interest every month?

Not with this tool. It models the cumulative FD, where the interest is added to the deposit and paid at the end.

Will my bank give exactly this amount?

It may differ slightly. Banks count days and round interest in their own way. Treat this as an estimate and confirm with your bank.

Are my numbers sent to your servers?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is uploaded.

Is this FD calculator free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no registration.
